How to Co-stream the NWHL on Twitch
As the NWHL season begins, our partners at Twitch want you to know that the NWHL’s Twitch channels are enabled for co-streaming!
For those of you who are new to this – like many of us! – co-streaming lets you air NWHL broadcasts on your Twitch channel so you can provide your own commentary on the action and contribute to the community.
Here’s a primer from our friends at Twitch on how you can co-stream all the National Women’s Hockey League’s games this year…
In order to co-stream the NWHL games on Twitch, you will need to have a Twitch channel, be able to stream on Twitch, and have the appropriate streaming software. For this purpose, here is how to set up your co-stream using OBS or XSplit.
1. Create Your Twitch Channel
- Review Twitch’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- If you don’t already have a Twitch account, sign up for one here.
- Note: Username needs to be between 4 and 24 characters.
2. Customize your Twitch Profile and set up your channel
- Go to your Settings page to start setting up your channel
- Check out the Twitch Creator Camp to start learning more
- Check your moderation settings and enable AutoMod
- You can find a lot more moderation info here
3. Set up your Streaming Software
- You need to use software on your computer to stream to Twitch. We recommend one of the following applications
- OBS - Free and open source software, for Mac and PC.
- XSplit Broadcaster - simple yet powerful live streaming and recording software, which may require a subscription
- Streamlabs OBS - a version of OBS that includes streamer alerts, overlay templates, and streamer tools all in app. Windows only.
- After installing the software, you will either need to login with your Twitch account, or add a Stream Key. You can find your Stream Key here, but be careful not to share it with anyone, it allows anyone to stream to your channel. Copy and paste it into your streaming software.
4. Add the NWHL Co-Streamer feed to your Streaming Software
OBS
- In OBS, look to the Sources panel on the lower left and click the + icon.
Select BrowserSource from the menu.
- A new screen will open. In the URL field, add the NWHL costream channel URL: http://twitch.tv/nwhlcostream/embed
- If needed, change the width, height, and FPS to match your stream settings in OBS. Click OK to close that window, and then press Start Streaming.
- In your Twitch dashboard, set your Category to “Sports & Fitness” apply the “Co-Stream” and “Match Commentary” tags and begin streaming.
- You’re now co-streaming the NWHL. Congrats!
XSplit
- First, ensure you are using XSplit Version 3.0.1 or higher only.
- Locate the Add button and select Webpage.
- A new screen will open. In the URL field, add the NWHL costream channel URL: http://twitch.tv/nwhlcostream/embed
- If needed, change the width, height, and FPS to match your stream settings in XSplit.
- In your Twitch dashboard, set your Category to “Sports & Fitness” apply the “Co-Stream” and “Match Commentary” tags and begin streaming.
- You’re now co-streaming the NWHL. Congrats!
